BOGINJA MATI IN ZMAJ
Atelje Galerija, december 2014
Exhibition of contemporary jewellery. The artists of the project, Macedonian designer of contemporary jewellery in the filigree technique Biljana Klekačkoska and Slovenian designer of original Idrija lace Tina Koder Grajzar, are linked by a similar concept of work and way of thinking. For their basic medium of expression, the two selected an old craft technique that is organically related to the environment they come from. As a starting point of their joint project, they each chose the symbol of their home town – the “Golemata majka boginja” (Great Mother Goddess) from Skopje and the Ljubljana dragon. They wanted to give these two mythological symbols a new, more current dimension, so Biljana asked her friend, writer Barbara Dragović, to write especially for this occasion a new, modern myth that would include both symbols. The result was the short story Boginja mati in zmaj (Mother Goddess and the Dragon), which was used by the artists of the exhibition as inspiration and a starting point for their joint work of art. In the showcased collection of jewellery, the two artists explore the dual principle (male-female, active-passive, dynamic-static), both at the level of form and at the level of the material. They represent a pursuit of the contact points that (co-)create the wholeness of the finished product and the optimum harmony of both their techniques and original expressions.
